Former President Donald Trump unleashed a blistering assault on ABC News, aiming to wriggle out of the upcoming presidential debate slated for September.
In a fiery tirade, Trump lambasted ABC News as “fake news” and derided their coverage of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He accused the network of bias and incompetence, dismissing them as unworthy hosts for any debate, let alone a crucial presidential face-off.
“ABC Fake News is such a joke, among the absolute WORST in the business,” Trump ranted on Truth Social. “They then tried to make ‘Sleepy’ look like a great President — he was the WORST, and Lyin’ Kamala into a competent person, which she is not.”
“ABC, the home of George Slopadopolus, is not worthy of holding a Debate, of which I hope there will be many!” he went on, using a degrading name for host George Stephanopoulos.
Trump’s maneuvers to evade or manipulate the rules of the scheduled debate intensified over the weekend. His resentment spiked following Biden’s withdrawal from the reelection race, prompting Trump to refocus his political crosshairs squarely on Harris. He launched a barrage of attacks on Harris’s tenure and the Biden administration’s policies, particularly those concerning the southern border.
Having secured accolades at the recent Republican National Convention, Trump now fixates on Harris, questioning her competence and integrity. He cynically suggested that Democrats reimburse the GOP for what he labeled as a fraudulent campaign effort against Biden.
Meanwhile, Vice President Harris wasted no time in responding, kickstarting her campaign with a war chest of $81 million. She drew a sharp contrast between her prosecutorial background, highlighting her history of confronting wrongdoers, and Trump’s extensive legal entanglements.
“In those roles, I faced down abusers, fraudsters, and rule-breakers,” Harris declared. “I know Donald Trump’s type.”
