Former President Donald Trump is set to stage a comeback to the campaign trail, opting this time for an indoor venue in Grand Rapids, Michigan, just one week after narrowly escaping an attempted assassination during an outdoor event. Joining him will be JD Vance, making his debut as Trump’s running mate.
The decision to move indoors to the Van Andel Arena comes in response to security concerns following the recent shooting incident in Pennsylvania. During that event, Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet fired by a 20-year-old assailant armed with an AR-15-style rifle. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired from a nearby building outside the rally’s security perimeter.
Trump made his first public appearance since the shooting at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday night, where he officially accepted the Republican nomination and introduced JD Vance as his running mate
He walked into the Fiserv Forum with a white bandage covering his right ear.
The upcoming rally on July 20 is expected to draw considerable attention as Trump and Vance consolidate their campaign strategy and rally support ahead of the presidential election.
