In a sharp critique, former Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) ridiculed Donald Trump on Friday morning, reacting to reports that the former president spent his Thursday with GOP lawmakers obsessing over pop star Taylor Swift.
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” McCaskill mocked Trump and the gathered Republican lawmakers, who were seen clapping for the now-convicted felon likely to be the Republican presidential nominee in November.
McCaskill was particularly amused that, during a time when Republicans should be focused on reclaiming the White House, Trump appeared preoccupied with Swift’s potential endorsement.
“Donald Trump got in front of members of Congress and wanted to talk about whether Taylor Swift was going to endorse him. I mean, that’s just weird! I mean, that is a scrambled brain,” McCaskill said, laughing.
“First of all , under no set of circumstances is Taylor Swift ever going to endorse Donald Trump ever!”, McCaskill said echoing the singer’s hit song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which includes the line, “But we are never, ever, ever, ever getting back together. Like, ever.”
McCaskill added, “Him bringing it up is such a self-own, that he cares more about Taylor Swift endorsing him than any of those losers that he was requiring to applaud him.”
