Former President Donald Trump recently addressed the Fraternal Order of Police, urging officers to be vigilant for alleged voter fraud in the upcoming November election. During his speech in Charlotte, North Carolina, Trump, who has persistently falsely claimed that the 2020 election was rigged against him, suggested that police could play a role in voter intimidation.
Trump criticized the legal system, saying, “You’re in serious trouble if you get caught trying to find out what are the real results of an election.” He implied that efforts to investigate or expose alleged election fraud are met with severe consequences, while those accused of voter fraud face no repercussions.
“It’s an amazing thing,” he said. “Do you ever see that? They go after the people that are looking at the crime, and they do terrible things to them. But the people that committed the voter fraud and everything, they can do whatever they want to do. It’s so crazy.”
In his speech, Trump praised the police, describing them as “the greatest people” and emphasized their role in monitoring the election. “Watch for the voter fraud because we win without voter fraud,” Trump stated. “We win so easily. Hopefully, we’re going to win anyway. But we want to keep it down. And you can keep it down just by watching because, believe it or not, they’re afraid of that badge. They’re afraid of you people. They’re afraid of that more than anything else. They’re afraid. So I hope you can watch.”
Trump’s remarks suggest a strategy of using police presence to deter alleged voter fraud, coupled with an implicit suggestion that the intimidation factor of law enforcement could influence the election process.
