On Tuesday, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) appeared for an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, where she fired back at fellow Republicans who criticize her for serving in the commission investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, saying, “This is absolutely not a game. This is deadly serious.” Cheney also said that former President Donald Trump, GOP leader Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Jim Jordan are material witnesses and could be subpoenaed to testify under oath about their roles in the deadly insurrection.
“There are some in my party, including Leader McCarthy, who continue to act as though this is about partisan politics, I think it’s really sad. I think it’s a disgrace,” she told ABC host George Stephanopoulos.
“The American people deserve to know what happened every minute of that day,” Cheney said, adding that some Republicans are trying to “whitewash” the assault.
Cheney went on to say that the committee could subpoena McCarthy to question him about what he told then-President Donald Trump during the attack, Jordan over his role in the incident, and possibly Trump himself.
