Former President Donald Trump made headlines Saturday with a spirited defense of his cognitive abilities during a speech to conservative allies in Detroit. Trump, aiming a rhetorical jab at President Joe Biden’s mental acuity, proudly recounted a cognitive assessment he claims to have aced while in office back in 2018 under the supervision of then-White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson.
However, in a moment of irony, Trump stumbled over Jackson’s name, referring to him as “Doc Ronny Johnson,” during his address to the crowd.
“Doc Ronny Johnson,” said Trump, who turned 78 on Friday.
“Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, congressman from Texas?” he continued. “He said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history, so I liked him very much.”
Despite the slip-up, Trump reminisced fondly about Jackson, now a congressman from Texas and a staunch supporter, who once hailed him as potentially the healthiest president in history.
Trump’s speech was peppered with critiques of Biden, 81, whom he accused of faltering during a recent G7 summit in Italy. He pointed to a viral video circulating in right-wing media and Republican circles as evidence of Biden’s supposed mental lapses, claiming Biden was distracted by a parachutist while other world leaders were engaged in serious discussions.
It’s worth noting that the video in question has been criticized for its selective editing, omitting scenes where Biden turned towards a parachutist who had just landed nearby.
