Senator Chuck Grassley, a leading Republican from Iowa, is demanding immediate action from President Donald Trump after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a brutal air attack on Ukraine.
“I’ve had enuf [sic] of Putin killing innocent ppl [sic]. Pres Trump Take action AT LEAST SANCTIONS,” Grassley wrote Monday on X, making it clear he wants a stronger U.S. response.
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina backed the call, saying the Senate is ready to impose sanctions on Russia.
“If the next few days are like the last few months, then you can just count on us moving, because I think it’s our job to try to help the world end this war,” Graham said.
Over the weekend, Trump criticized Putin sharply on Truth Social.
“Something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely crazy. He is needlessly killing a lot of people,” Trump said.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia fired 355 drones and nine cruise missiles between Sunday and Monday morning in the largest attack so far.
Putin’s spokesperson defended the strikes as “necessary for the security” of Russia.
But the message from top Republicans is clear: Putin’s brutal assault cannot be ignored. They want the U.S. to step up — at least by imposing sanctions — to stop the bloodshed.
