Three people were killed Thursday one other was critically injured in a shooting at a manufacturing plant in Smithsburg, Maryland. A state trooper was also shot in the shoulder, Gov. Larry Hogan said.
Hagan said “state Police responded, pursued the suspect, who fired and shot the state trooper in the shoulder. The trooper then returned fire and shot him back.” Both were injured and transported for medical treatment.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office did not provide details about the shooter or the victims.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives office in Baltimore and the FBI each said agents are assisting the sheriff’s office with the incident, according to CNN.
The incident is one of several high-profile shootings that have taken place over the past few weeks across the country.
