Steve Bannon’s contempt-of-Congress conviction has been upheld by a federal appeals court, marking a significant blow to the former adviser to ex-President Donald Trump. Bannon now faces the looming specter of jail time after being found guilty for his failure to comply with a subpoena from the House January 6 committee.

The US DC Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed multiple challenges Bannon raised, including his argument that crucial evidence was unfairly excluded from his defense during trial.

Bannon was convicted by a Washington, DC jury in July 2022 after he failed to comply with a Congressional subpoena related to an investigation on the 6 January 2021 Capitol riots. He was sentenced to four months in jail and slapped with $6,500 fine. His sentence was put on hold after his legal team appealed the conviction.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
