The internet went on overdrive early Sunday, blasting President Donald Trump for sending a frantic tweet denying that he had been briefed on reported Russian bounties placed on U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“Nobody briefed or told me, @VP Pence, or Chief of Staff @MarkMeadows about the so-called attacks on our troops in Afghanistan by Russians, as reported through an ‘anonymous source’ by the Fake News @nytimes,” Trump tweeted.

He then tried to drag Hunter Biden to the mud, writing in a second tweet:

“Everybody is denying it & there have not been many attacks on us….. …Nobody’s been tougher on Russia than the Trump Administration. With Corrupt Joe Biden & Obama, Russia had a field day, taking over important parts of Ukraine – Where’s Hunter? Probably just another phony Times hit job, just like their failed Russia Hoax. Who is their ‘source’?” he added.

The New York Times reported on Friday that Trump and Pence were briefed on the intelligence findings and that the White House’s National Security Council held a meeting about the issue in late March and the president chose not to respond at the time.

Twitter users didn’t waste time responding to the president. Within minutes, #TRE45ON started trending on the social media platform.
