A conservative pundit is facing widespread backlash for attacking Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky over his “casual attire” during his wartime address to Congress Wednesday morning. Speaking from Kyiv, which is under bombardment by the Russian military, Zelensky wore the army-green shirt that has become a symbol of resistance.

Peter Schiff, a former GOP Senate candidate in Connecticut and chief economist at Euro Pacific Capital, was not pleased with Zelensky’s outfit and decided to criticize him on Twitter.

“I understand times are hard, but doesn’t the President of the #Ukraine own a suit?” Schiff tweeted Zelensky’s impassioned plea to lawmakers. “I don’t have much respect for current members of the U.S. Congress either, but I still wouldn’t address them wearing a t-shirt,” he added.

Schiff’s comments drew intense blowback, with critics dubbing it one of his “worst all time takes.”

“The guy is in the middle of a war zone ducking mortars, Peter, he’s not going to be rolling around his garment rack with him,” one Twitter user wrote.
