Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly “panicking” over the prospect that Russian people could overthrow his authoritarian government after a fifth Russian army general was killed in Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, according to The Independent.
According to Ukrainian officials, Lieutenant-General Andrei Mordvichev was killed when Ukrainian forces hit an airfield in Chornobayivka, near Kherson airport.
Now, according to Johnson, “Putin is fearing that civilians would demand the free press and free elections that Ukraine has.”
“Putin has been terrified that a Russian revolution would follow those seen in Georgia and Ukraine in the early 2000s,” Johnson told the Conservative Party spring conference, according to The Independent.
The Kremlin has not confirmed the death, the outlet noted.
