The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol issued a new round of subpoenas on Tuesday, targeting right-wing extremist groups that were involved in the attack, including the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, according to multiple news outlets.
“The subpoenas went to the Proud Boys and its leader Enrique Tarrio, as well as the Oath Keepers and its leader Stewart Rhodes,” CNN reported.
The panel also subpoenaed three other individuals associated with militia groups, the news network noted.
“We believe the individuals and organizations we subpoenaed today have relevant information about how violence erupted at the Capitol and the preparation leading up to this violent attack,” Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), said in a statement, according to CNN.
The move signals that the House panel is ramping up its investigation into the Jan 6 insurrection.
