Police officers in New Mexico have detained a man they called their “primary suspect” in the slayings of several Muslim men in Albuquerque, local officials announced Tuesday.
“We tracked down the vehicle believed to be involved in a recent murder of a Muslim man in Albuquerque. The driver was detained and he is our primary suspect for the murders,” Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“We are grateful for the unified effort of our state, federal, and Alburquerque police officers who made strong progress in the investigation. We hope their swift action brings an increased sense of safety for so many who are experiencing fear from the recent shootings, mayor Tim Keller said.
The killings took place between November 2021 and August of this year, with the latest three occurring within the span of two weeks, raising fears in that Albuquerque community. All of the victims were of South Asian descent, CNN reported.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
