A petition calling for the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has now passed 265,000 signatures, amid growing controversy about his wife’s role in the January 6 insurrection and recent revelations that the conservative justice boasted about making the lives of liberals “miserable.”

The petition, hosted at MoveOn.org, had garnered more than 265,000 signatures as of early Sunday morning.

Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ginni Thomas, is a right-wing activist who has been at the center of Jan 6 probe over her involvement in Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

As noted by the petition, Justice Thomas was the lone dissenting vote in a case where Trump had attempted to shield certain documents from the Select Committee.

“Thomas’ failure to recuse himself warrants immediate investigation and heightened alarm,” the petition says.

Moreover, according to a report re-published by The new York Times, Clarence Thomas told his law clerks that his main goal while serving on the highest court of the land was to make the lives of liberals “miserable.”

Some critics at the time called for Thomas to either retire or be removed from the nation’s highest court as a result of the controversy.

Justice Thomas is the longest-serving member of the Supreme Court.
