A clip from a documentary film from filmmaker Alex Holder, which was published by CNN, shows the moment former vice president Mike Pence receives a letter from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanding that he invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Donald Trump as president during his final days in office.
As Pence sat down for an interview, a member of his staff walks in and shows him an email that includes the draft House resolution demanding that Pence invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power, according to the documentary.
“Yeah, excellent” Pence tells his aide as he is handed the phone with the email. He then offers a smirk and asks the aide to “tell Zach to print me off a hard copy for the trip home.” Pence then collects himself for the rest of the interview.
In the footage, Pelosi is heard saying: “I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the Vice President to remove this President by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment. If the Vice President and cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”
Pence ultimately decided not to invoke the 25th amendment, writing:
“Under our Constitution, the 25th Amendment is not a means of punishment or usurpation,” Mr Pence wrote. “Invoking the 25th Amendment in such a manner would set a terrible precedent.”
The same day, the House voted to impeach Trump.
