New legal documents filed late Thursday allege that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) attended a 2017 party at which drugs and underage girls were present. The allegations come from affidavits related to a civil lawsuit brought by lobbyist Chris Dorworth, who recently withdrew his case, claiming he was unfairly implicated in Gaetz’s ongoing scandal.
According to investigative journalist Jose Pagliery at NOTUS, the newly released documents reference testimonies from three eyewitnesses. The filing was part of Dorworth’s legal team’s attempt to recover unpaid fees in light of his lawsuit dismissal.
The affidavits assert that the party occurred at Dorworth’s Florida home on July 15, 2017. One eyewitness, identified as K.M., stated in a sworn affidavit that a high school junior, referred to as A.B., was present and that attendees engaged in sexual activities. The affidavit also claims that alcohol, cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana were available at the party.
“The discovery taken in this case to date reflects that on Saturday, July 15, 2017… Dorworth, hosted a party at his residence… with the following guests present: (1) A.B.; (2) K.M.; (3) B.G.; (4) Matt Gaetz,” lawyers wrote.
These revelations represent the first documented allegations regarding Gaetz’s attendance at such events. He is already under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for other sexual misconduct allegations.
Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing, including accusations of sex trafficking minors. He previously faced a federal investigation by the Department of Justice, which did not result in charges.
