A Missouri man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after confessing to fatally stabbing his father, claiming the killing was accidental.
Jeffrey Goedde, 41, turned himself in to authorities Wednesday night, driving to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office where he admitted to the crime and expressed his desire to surrender.
According to the criminal complaint, Goedde told police that his father, 75-year-old Edward Goedde Jr., was found unconscious and bleeding in the kitchen of their shared home. While the details were hazy, Goedde suggested he may have used a kitchen knife and possibly his hands during the incident but could not fully recall the events.
In response to the confession, officers conducted a welfare check at the residence, entering through a basement window. Upon entering, they were met with the strong scent of bleach. In the kitchen, they discovered the lifeless body of Edward Goedde Jr., lying face down.
When informed of the grisly scene, Jeffrey Goedde reportedly acknowledged his father’s death, explaining that he had unintentionally killed him. He then requested legal counsel and chose not to answer any additional questions.
An autopsy later revealed the severity of the injuries, showing that Edward Goedde Jr. had suffered around 50 stab wounds, along with signs of blunt force trauma, strangulation, and broken bones. A kitchen knife, believed to be the weapon used, was discovered in a nearby trash can, just five feet from the victim’s body.
Goedde has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is scheduled for a bond review and will make his first court appearance on January 16.
