CNN reported on Monday that a security guard at a Family Dollar in Flint, Michigan, was shot and killed after telling a woman on Friday that she had to wear a mask to shop inside.
According to the report, 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn was pronounced dead after arriving at a local hospital from suffering a gunshot to the head.
Witnesses told police officers that Munerlyn got into a verbal altercation with the woman who tried to enter the store without a mask.
Just 20 minutes after the altercation, the woman came back with two men in an SUV. The two men exited the vehicle and entered the store to confront Munerlyn. One of the men was yelling at Munerlyn for disrespecting his wife, when the other man pulled out a gun and shot him.
“This is senseless. Over a mask. Over a mask?” Munerlyn’s cousin, Tina James, told CNN affiliate WJRT. “This is not the way to do things right now. We need to come together.”
