An Irishman smashed his truck through the gates of the Russian embassy in Dublin on Monday over what he called “Vladimir Putin’s atrocities in Ukraine,” The Irish Times reports.
After crashing his truck, the driver then exited the vehicle and handed out photos of Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
“I’ve just done this to create a safe corridor for the Russian Ambassador to leave Ireland,” the man said, according to the outlet.
“I want the ambassador and his colleagues to leave this country, leave this free country,” the man told police after being arrested for criminal damage. “It’s about time we stood up,” he added.
The man identified himself as a “working man” from Leitrim, the report says.
“I’ve done my bit, lads. It’s about time the rest of Ireland done their bit,” he said as he was led away by police.
Videos of the incident show the truck reversing into the gates and forcing them open as a number of protesters looked on. There were some shouts of “Bravo” and “Well done” from the group. There were no injuries during the incident, The Irish Times reported.
