A new campaign ad featuring Julia Roberts has ignited a firestorm among conservative commentators, who are fuming over the actress’s powerful call for women to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. The ad centers on the crucial issue of abortion rights, a pivotal concern as Harris solidifies her support among female voters while Trump retains a commanding lead among men.
In the ad, Roberts boldly states, “In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want. And no one will ever know.” This powerful message is visually underscored as a woman shares a knowing wink with another female voter after casting her ballot for Harris as her husband asks if she made the “right choice.”
The conservative reaction has been fierce, with some commentators equating a wife’s secret vote with infidelity.
Fox News host Jesse Watters claimed, “If I found out Emma was going to the voting booth and pulling the lever for Harris, that’s the same thing as having an affair.”
Fellow GOP figure Charlie Kirk described the scenario as “nauseating,” arguing it undermines the sacrifices of hardworking husbands.
“I think it’s so gross,” Kirk fumed to radio host Megyn Kelly. “I think it’s so nauseating where this wife is wearing the American hat, she’s coming in with her sweet husband who probably works his tail off to make sure that she can go you know and have a nice life and provide to the family, and then she lies to him saying, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m gonna vote for Trump,’ and then she votes for Kamala Harris as her little secret in the voting booth.”
In the midst of this uproar, Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), one of the highest-profile Republicans backing Harris for president, stepped in with a sharp and pointed retort, calling Kirk a “twit” on social media.
“Listen to this twit make Donald Trump’s closing argument. Women, you know what to do. #VoteKamala,” Cheney wrote on X.
