Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) have been receiving backlash this week for helping Donald Trump cause havoc in Washington D.C. by spreading his falsehoods about the election being rigged against the president.
Both senators pushed conspiracy theories about election fraud and objected to the certification of election results. This eventually led to Trump supporters storming the Capitol building in support of their efforts to overturn the election.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), who is the number three Democrat in the Senate in her role as assistant Democratic leader, said on Friday that both Republican senators must resign from their position for breaking their oath of office.
I use my voice to tell people what I believe to be right, and I listen to the other side. We hear each other out, we vote, and whoever has the votes wins. And I accept that.

There can be no normalizing or looking away from what played out before our eyes this week. The violent mob that attacked the Capitol was made up of people who don’t accept democracy, and want to take this country by use of force.

At the end of the day, our job is to keep this country a democracy where voices win, not brute force. Any Senator who stands up and supports the power of force over the power of democracy has broken their oath of office. Senators Hawley and Cruz should resign.
