In a controversial interview on Fox News Sunday, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance drew a contentious comparison between Vice President Kamala Harris and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Vance’s remarks were aimed at criticizing Harris’s economic policies and dismissing recent polling data that shows a challenging landscape for Donald Trump’s campaign.
In a bid to criticize Harris’s handling of economic issues, Vance made the bizarre comparison between the Democratic presidential contender and the convicted pedophile who had known connections to Donald Trump.
“Giving Kamala Harris control over inflation policy, it’s like giving Jeffrey Epstein control over human trafficking policy,” Vance told host Shannon Bream. He argued that Harris, who is now at the top of the Democratic ticket, represents a poor choice for voters.
Despite Vance’s inflammatory comments, Bream did not challenge his analogy. Instead, she focused on the Trump campaign’s recent claims about polling. Current national polls show Harris leading Trump, though Trump remains competitive in several key swing states.
Vance dismissed these polls as “fake,” insisting that the Trump campaign is in a strong position. He criticized mainstream polling organizations, citing past inaccuracies, and predicted that Trump’s support would increase as the election approaches.
“I’m telling you, every single person who’s watching this, the Trump campaign is in a very, very good spot,” Vance asserted. “I think there are a lot of polls that actually show her stagnating and leveling off. ABC/Washington Post was a wildly inaccurate pollster in the summer of 2020.”
While Vance’s skepticism echoes past critiques of polling accuracy, most polls in 2020 did reflect the eventual outcome, despite some discrepancies. Current data indicates that Harris’s popularity is growing, a trend that may continue as Democrats convene for their convention in Chicago next week.
Republicans, meanwhile, are gearing up to counter the positive coverage Harris is likely to receive, underscoring the high stakes and intense competition of the upcoming election.
