President Donald Trump on Friday slammed congressional Republicans for moving forward on a must-pass defense policy bill without repealing a legal shield for social media companies whom the president believes are biased against him, saying in a tweet “I will VETO!”
Despite Trump’s veto threat, the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act that will soon be considered by the House and Senate won’t include Trump’s long-sought repeal of the legal immunity for online companies, known as Section 230.
Senate Armed Services Chair Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said that Section 230 “has nothing to do with the military.”
“You can’t do it in this bill. That’s not a part of the bill,” Inhofe said.
Very sadly for our Nation, it looks like Senator @JimInhofe will not be putting the Section 230 termination clause into the Defense Bill. So bad for our National Security and Election Integrity. Last chance to ever get it done. I will VETO!
