At an event meant to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, President Donald Trump didn’t hold back his anger—he openly declared his hatred for Democrats.
Speaking from behind thick bulletproof glass in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump wasted no time launching attacks. “They wouldn’t vote only because they hate Trump, but I hate them, too, you know?” he said, referring to Democrats who voted against his new “Big Beautiful Bill.”
“I really do. I hate them. I cannot stand them, because I really believe they hate our country,” he added, making his feelings very clear.
This harsh tone stood out at a gathering that was supposed to bring people together. The event was organized by America250 to celebrate the country’s history and future, aiming for a non-political spirit. Monica Crowley, Trump’s liaison to the group, said before the event, “I think that all Americans can come together to celebrate and honor our history as well as our present and our future.”
But Crowley showed her own bias when introducing Trump. She said, “I don’t know what more people expect or want from an American president. He is literally fulfilling the entire job description, and so much more.”
As the event turned into a Trump rally, he also talked about using Democratic opposition as a weapon in the upcoming midterm elections.
“With all of the things we did with the tax cuts and rebuilding our military, not one Democrat voted for us, and I think we use it in the campaign that’s coming up the midterms, because we got to beat them,” he said.
Trump also celebrated passing his bill just hours before the event. “There could be no better birthday present for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved just hours ago, when Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill to make America great again,” he told the crowd.
“We’ve saved our country,” he said, as his campaign anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.” played in the background.
Ignoring polls that show most Americans disapprove of his presidency, Trump bragged, “We got great marks in the first term, and this is going to blow it away.”
