In a heated session on Capitol Hill, Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) didn’t hold back as she confronted House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), reminding him of the fundamental principles governing their committee proceedings.
The showdown occurred during a hearing where Jordan attempted to shield former President Donald Trump from scrutiny amidst mounting legal troubles. Trump is facing trial in Manhattan for alleged business records fraud, linked to a payoff to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors argue this scheme was an effort to defraud voters in the 2016 presidential election.
Plaskett, wielding her authority as a delegate, lambasted Trump for his audacious demands of loyalty from Republican officials, likening his behavior to that of an entitled, petulant child seeking protection for his misdeeds.
But tensions escalated when Jordan, in a patronizing display, arrogantly claimed he was “letting” Plaskett speak—a move that underscored his misguided attempt to assert dominance where none existed.
“Really?? Talking about he ‘let me talk’ for 14 minutes…” wrote Plaskett on X. “Sir! I’m the Ranking Member, I talk for as long as I want. I don’t need your permission. Am I supposed to act grateful that you let me do what the rules say I can do??? …..crazy ish..”
Meanwhile, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pursuit of justice against Trump is inching closer to conclusion, with the prosecution wrapping up its case. Trump’s former confidant and fixer, Michael Cohen, faced intense scrutiny, his credibility challenged by Jordan’s desperate attempts to undermine his testimony.
Jordan’s tactic of cherry-picking statements from Cohen’s past associates to discredit him only served to highlight the lengths to which Trump loyalists will go to shield their leader from accountability.
