The increasing gun violence that is crippling the US continued unabated on Monday morning after multiple police officers were shot in Georgia during a police chase 50 miles west of Atlanta, authorities said, according to CNN.
“Multiple agencies joined the pursuit,” said Ashley Hulsey, a spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, according to CNN.
Police said the scene had been contained by 8:30 a.m. Monday and there was no longer a threat to the public.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation at the request of the state patrol and the sheriff’s office, according to a GBI tweet.
The news comes as protest erupted in Minnesota on Sunday after a police officer shot an unarmed black man in the back.
It also comes after mass shootings in Atlanta, Colorado, Texas, and California were reported in the past few days.
