Elon Musk found himself the target of widespread ridicule after downplaying the results of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. In a post on his social media platform X early Wednesday, Musk claimed he “expected to lose” the election.
Musk was responding to a comment from a user who thanked him for his involvement. The user, MAZE, wrote: “Elon knew that it was a long shot to win the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. He knew his involvement in the race would bring more violence against his companies but he fully committed his money and time anyway. Thanks Elon. We have amazing warriors on our side. Keep fighting.”
Musk replied, saying: “I expected to lose, but there is value to losing a piece for a positional gain.”
The election saw liberal candidate Susan Crawford defeat conservative candidate Brad Schimel, a loss for both Musk and President Trump, who had both backed Schimel. Musk spent over $25 million supporting Schimel, and he even visited Wisconsin to hand out checks to voters just before the election. Crawford’s victory kept the state Supreme Court’s 4-3 liberal majority intact and provided a much-needed boost to Democrats after a rough election season.
Musk’s comment quickly sparked a wave of mockery online. One user, Patrick (@Crimsonkiller21), questioned, “If you expected to lose, why’d you throw so much money at it? Make it make sense.” Another user, Maile (@MaileOnX), sarcastically pointed out, “Dude you literally fear mongered that all of Western civilization was at stake 🤣.”
Miss Information (@xmissin4mationx) also weighed in, writing, “We’re glad you met your own expectations.”
Others joined in with mocking remarks. User @GoshenBLB replied, “Look at that. Something you couldn’t buy.”
“Yeah when I know I’m about to lose, I always spend a bazillion dollars too 🙄🙄,” one user sarcastically said.
User @Atomicpuma9 called it “cope on the highest of levels,” while another user joked, “All that crying you did on tv lol now you acting like ‘I expected to lose’ 🤡.”
Dobby Club mocked Musk with, “HHahahahahaha course you did matey boy,” and Matt Hoeft simply responded, “Lmao yeah right.”
Rob Feinstein sarcastically added, “Sure, Jan.”
User @DKToTheFuture88 went further, calling Musk “an absolute fucking moron.”
User @churrrp summed it up by saying, “The losses keep mounting. Maybe it’s time to go away. Everyone has had enough of you and Wisconsin showed there’s nothing your big money can do about that.”
Musk’s attempt to brush off the defeat only seemed to fuel the mockery, with many questioning why he would spend so much money if he truly expected to lose.
