In a recent discussion about Donald Trump’s impact on American politics, George Conway took a subtle shot at his ex-wife, Kellyanne Conway, without mentioning her by name.
Conway, a conservative attorney, joined political commentator Jennifer Rubin for a live taping of Rubin’s “Green Room” podcast in New York earlier this month. During the talk, Conway criticized ABC News’ decision to settle a defamation lawsuit with Trump for $15 million.
At one point, Conway remarked that it seemed impossible to harm Trump’s reputation further, saying, “How do you damage that man’s reputation?” His audience laughed in response.
He clarified that he wasn’t trying to insult Trump, but rather, he pointed out that many Americans, including himself, could not lower their opinion of Trump any more than they already had.
He explained, “You’ve got a group of people who — you could tell me tomorrow that he shot a bunch of people on Fifth Avenue, and it would not change my opinion of him, because I think he’s the lowest form of life on Earth.”
Conway then referred to his ex-wife, who served as a senior counselor in Trump’s White House and continues to support him as a Fox News contributor.
He said, “And then there’s another group of people who won’t believe anything bad about Trump, or at least won’t admit it, like my ex-wife. They watch Fox News and Newsmax and pretend the bad stuff doesn’t exist, claiming it’s all a conspiracy involving half of America.”
The Conways, who divorced last year after more than two decades of marriage, issued a joint statement in March 2023, calling their separation “amicable” and emphasizing that they remained united as parents of their four children.
Their marriage had puzzled many, as George Conway became one of Trump’s strongest critics, while Kellyanne continued to defend him publicly.
