The FBI has asked former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski to sit for an interview with the Bureau, the Republican-led Senate Homeland Security Committee said in a statement released Friday.
Bobulinski, who was was one of President Donald Trump’s guests at the presidential debate, accused former Vice President Joe Biden prior to the event of lying about his involvement with his son’s business dealings with Chinese and Ukrainian companies.
In a letter released to the New York Post, Bobulinski claims that Hunter Biden called his dad “the big guy” or “my chairman,” according to Bobulinski’s statement to the New York Post.
“Hunter Biden called his dad “the Big Guy” or “my Chairman,” and frequently referenced asking him for his sign-off or advice on various potential deals that we were discussing. I’ve seen Vice President Biden saying he never talked to Hunter about his business. I’ve seen firsthand that that’s not true, because it wasn’t just Hunter’s business, they said they were putting the Biden family name and its legacy on the line,” the letter said.
During the debate Thursday, moderator Kristen Welker questioned President Trump and Biden about reports Wednesday of Russian and Iranian efforts to interfere in the 2020 election. Biden pushed for a more aggressive response and slammed Trump for not doing more to deter Russia.
“Any country no matter who it is, that interferes with American elections will pay a price,” Biden said.
Trump maintained he has been tougher on Russia than anyone and accused Biden of participating in his son Hunter’s foreign business ventures, which Biden has repeatedly denied.
Bobulinski claims that 2017 emails about negotiations with a Chinese energy firm obtained last week by The New York Post were authentic and that Hunter said his father was advising him on the deal. The emails show discussions about a possible stake in equity for “the big guy,” which is allegedly a reference to Joe Biden, but there is no evidence he ever received payments from any of his son’s deals.
“I think you have to clean it up and talk to the American people,” Trump told Biden.
Biden fired back by bringing up Trump’s international financial dealings, including his bank account and tax payments in China. He also questioned why Trump has still not released his tax returns, which the president claims cannot be made public because they are under audit.
“I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life,” Biden said.
