The family of Ruby Garcia, whose name was invoked by Donald Trump at a recent event in Michigan, contradicts the former president’s claim of having spoken with them. Ruby’s sister, Mavi Garcia, clarified to ABC News that neither she nor her immediate family had any communication with Trump.
“I can confirm and assure you he did not speak with me or my immediate family,” Mavi Garcia, Ruby Garcia’s sister, told ABC’s Rachel Scott.
Despite Trump’s assertions during a speech in Grand Rapids, the Garcia family reiterated to ABC’s Rachel Scott that they have had no direct contact with him. The Trump campaign declined to provide an official statement regarding this contradiction, citing their policy of not disclosing details of private discussions without explicit consent from the involved families.
During his speech, Trump highlighted Ruby Garcia’s tragic death while criticizing illegal immigration. Authorities reported her death last month as a result of a domestic dispute involving a suspect who had entered the country illegally from Mexico.
Trump blamed President Biden for Garcia’s death, alleging that the suspect had been deported under his administration but was later allowed back into the country. However, Immigration and Customs Enforcement clarified that the suspect had re-entered the U.S. after deportation at an undisclosed time and place.
In his speech, Trump also claimed to have spoken with some members of Garcia’s family, praising her character and vitality. However, he seemed to alternate between stating her age as 25 and 17, adding further confusion to his remarks.
