On Thursday, former GOP congressman-turned Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes suffered another defeat for a meritless lawsuit after the Virginia Supreme Court denied his appeal to continue suing a Republican strategist whom the former California congressman claimed had conspired to defame him, The Fresno Bee reports.
“Upon review of the record in this case and consideration of the argument submitted in support of and in opposition to the granting of an appeal, the Court is of the opinion there is no reversible error in the judgment complained of. Accordingly, the Court refuses the petition for appeal,” the clerk, Muriel-Theresa Pitney, wrote in the decision obtained by the news outlet.
Nunes was suing Republican strategist named Liz Mair and The Fresno Bee over a story the newspaper published in 2018 lining Nunes to a charity event on a yacht where the guests appeared to use drugs and hire prostitutes. Nunes claimed Mair conspired to spread defamatory information about him through the story.
The former congressman asked for $150 million in reparations from Mair in the case that was filed in Virginia’s Albemarle County Circuit Court, according to The Bee.
But the lower court judge said Nunes failed to show that Mair conspired against him or defamed him. Nunes then took the case all the way to the Virginia Supreme court. To no surprise, the high court sent him back home empty-handed.
