Barron Trump could soon find himself at the center of a congressional investigation after a Democratic lawmaker called for him to be subpoenaed over reported “extensive communications” with controversial influencer Andrew Tate.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) is urging House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to open an investigation into what she says are possible political connections between the Trump administration and Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are facing criminal proceedings in Romania and separate sex crime charges in the United Kingdom.
In a letter released Thursday, Ansari asked Comer to subpoena President Donald Trump’s youngest son as part of the proposed investigation, citing reports of “coordination and extensive communications” between Barron Trump and Andrew Tate.
“The Committee must learn from Barron Trump about his knowledge of the Tate brothers’ crimes, if he had any involvement whatsoever, and if he communicated with members of his father’s administration or the President himself regarding their legal proceedings,” Ansari wrote.
The Arizona Democrat is also seeking subpoenas for records from the Justice Department, State Department and White House, including communications related to the Tate brothers’ legal cases, extradition requests and White House visitor logs.
Her request comes just days after Andrew Tate was arrested in Miami and amid renewed scrutiny over the brothers’ ties to people in President Trump’s political orbit.
Ansari argues Congress should determine whether political influence played any role in decisions involving the Tate brothers, who have been indicted in Romania on charges including human trafficking and rape and also face additional criminal allegations in the United Kingdom.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have been indicted on horrific charges of rape, human trafficking, and the exploitation of minors.

The claims involving Barron Trump stem primarily from a New York Times investigation citing Justin Waller, a businessman and influencer who has described himself as the Tate brothers’ “third brother.”
According to Waller, he arranged a video call between Barron Trump and Andrew Tate in 2024 during which they discussed the Romanian criminal case against the brothers and how online influencers could help Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
Waller also claimed Barron Trump hosted a dinner at Mar-a-Lago attended by campaign-friendly influencers and that he visited the resort several times.
A representative for Andrew Tate has dismissed reports of contact with Barron Trump as “fake news,” while the White House has said Barron Trump has no involvement with the Tate brothers.
Ansari also pointed to broader ties between the Trump world and the Tate brothers, noting that Vice President JD Vance follows both men on X, Donald Trump Jr. previously criticized their detention in Romania, and former Tate attorney Paul Ingrassia later joined the Trump administration in a Department of Homeland Security liaison role.
Whether the subpoena request goes anywhere remains an open question.
As chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Comer controls whether subpoenas are issued or hearings are scheduled, and he has given no indication that he intends to pursue an investigation into Barron Trump.
