On Tuesday, Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, made a chilling prediction: Trump will run again in 2028 and secure a third term, openly defying the Constitution’s limits. Bannon’s unsettling comments raised alarm about the extreme lengths Trump’s supporters might take to make such a scenario a reality.
“I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028, so I’ve already endorsed President Trump,” Bannon declared in an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewsNation. “A man like this comes along once every century if we’re a little lucky. We’ve got him now, he’s on fire, and I’m a huge supporter. I wanna see him again in 2028.”
The former White House strategist, known for his hardline nationalist views, skirted around Cuomo’s attempts to ease concerns that such a plan might involve illegal or violent actions. Bannon, who was ousted from the Trump administration, no longer has formal ties to Trump’s current campaign, yet remains a powerful figure within the MAGA movement. After serving time in prison for defying a subpoena related to the January 6th insurrection, Bannon uses his “War Room” podcast to spread his far-right ideology to a loyal audience.
Cuomo pointed out that Bannon recently finished second in a CPAC poll about potential GOP candidates for 2028, right behind Vice President JD Vance. Bannon denied his own presidential aspirations but maintained that Trump would succeed in his third-term bid.
During the interview, Cuomo confronted Bannon about the constitutional term limit on presidents, asking how Trump could possibly serve another term.
Bannon ominously replied, “We’re working on it. I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that. We’ll see what the definition of term limit is.”
Cuomo pressed him, questioning whether Bannon was suggesting anything illegal or dangerous. Bannon avoided directly answering, instead referencing Trump’s ongoing battle with judges over his deportation plans, claiming, “We’re big believers in democracy.” But the implication was clear: the rules might be bent or broken to keep Trump in power.
Cuomo also asked Bannon if he was alluding to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four terms in office. Bannon responded cryptically, “We are, but I firmly believe in the revolution you’re seeing now, the revolution of common sense to deconstruct the administrative state.” His words suggested a larger, more unsettling vision of power—a push to dismantle the very foundations of American democracy.
Trump himself has hinted at the possibility of running for a third term. Whether that idea remains a distant thought or a dangerous reality is still unclear, but Bannon’s comments have added fuel to a growing sense of unease about what might come next.
