Representative Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Wednesday slammed comments that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) made on Sunday in which she called for ending the separation of church and state in the U.S.

Speaking a the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colorado on Sunday, Boebert said that she is “tired” of the separation of church and appeared to call for churches to rebel against the government.

I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk — that’s not in the constitution. It was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like they say it does,” Boebert said, earning a round of applause from the crowd.

She then argued that “The church is supposed to direct the government.”

“The reason we had so many overreaching regulations is that the church complied,” she said. “The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. That is not how our founding fathers intended it.”

Kinzinger slammed Boebert’s comments and compared them to the views of the Taliban, the extremist Islamic group that rules Afghanistan.

“There is no difference between this and the Taliban,” Kinzinger tweeted. “We must oppose the Christian Taliban. I say this as a Christian,” he added.
