MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell didn’t mince words Tuesday night. He called out what he saw as a rare, brutal moment of live humiliation for Donald Trump — and aired the clip to prove it.
“Donald Trump is clearly off his game,” O’Donnell said, opening the segment. “The Canadian prime minister both humbled and humiliated Donald Trump at the same time without Donald Trump having the slightest idea it was happening.”
The footage showed Trump in the Oval Office sitting next to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. During the meeting, Trump floated the bizarre idea of Canada becoming part of the U.S. — and Carney shut it down on the spot.
“Absolutely no,” Carney told him bluntly as Trump, seemingly oblivious, nodded along as if they were in agreement.
O’Donnell couldn’t believe what he was watching: “Donald Trump had no fight in him today,” he said. “The very polite Canadian beside him talked rings around Donald Trump like a ringmaster in a circus with a trained animal.”
He added that Carney used just the right tone — calm, courteous, but firm — to completely outclass Trump on live TV.
And Trump? “He ends up nodding and agreeing with the man who is humiliating him and defeating him right there in the room,” O’Donnell said.
According to O’Donnell, this wasn’t a one-off. He described a “steady stream of that sort of humiliation” from foreign leaders — including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer — all showing up Trump in front of the cameras.
But this moment with Carney stood out.
“No president has ever lost more in one conversation in the Oval Office than Donald Trump lost in these 90 seconds,” O’Donnell said.
He then aired the footage of Carney telling Trump, point blank, that Canada would never be for sale or part of the United States.
To O’Donnell, it was the ultimate televised takedown.
“A total loser,” he said, summing up the moment. Watch the clip below form MSNBC:
