Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her husband, Bryon Noem, are officially heading for divorce, months after a bizarre scandal involving allegations that Bryon had been participating in an online “bimbofication” fetish community.
Court records show that Noem filed for divorce from Bryon Noem, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The filing was submitted in April but only became publicly available on September 28. The couple had been married since 1992 and have three adult children and several grandchildren.
The divorce comes after a turbulent year for the couple, with Bryon at the center of a scandal that erupted after photos and reports surfaced in March about his alleged involvement in online fetish forums. Noem’s representatives said at the time that the family was devastated and that Kristi had been blindsided by the revelations.
In March, the Daily Mail published photos that allegedly showed Bryon wearing women’s clothing and a skin-colored top with what appeared to be exaggerated fake breasts.
The report linked him to an online fetish community known as “bimbofication,” a term referring to a sexualized fantasy centered on exaggerated feminine features.
One adult entertainer who told the Daily Mail she had communicated with Bryon described his alleged interest as wanting “huge, huge ridiculous boobs.”
The revelations quickly turned an otherwise private family matter into a national political spectacle.
But the drama surrounding the Noem marriage had another highly publicized chapter — this one involving Kristi herself.
For years, Noem has faced rumors of a romantic relationship with Corey Lewandowski, a longtime Trump ally who became one of her top advisers at the Department of Homeland Security.
The allegations resurfaced in a major way after Lewandowski took on an unusually prominent role at DHS. ProPublica reported that he was functioning as a top official despite being an unpaid adviser, while other reporting described him as effectively serving as Noem’s chief adviser.
In March, the issue exploded into a congressional hearing.
A House Democrat directly asked Noem whether she had ever had sexual relations with Lewandowski. Noem rejected the line of questioning as “tabloid garbage.” Both Noem and Lewandowski have repeatedly denied having a romantic relationship.
The allegations remain allegations — there has been no public confirmation from either Noem or Lewandowski that they had an affair.
Still, the rumors became part of the broader scrutiny surrounding Noem and Lewandowski’s unusually close professional relationship. Lewandowski ultimately left DHS shortly after President Donald Trump removed Noem as secretary in March.
Against that backdrop, the collapse of Noem’s 34-year marriage adds another dramatic chapter to a remarkably turbulent year for the former South Dakota governor.
Noem’s mother, Corinne Arnold, had already indicated in July that a divorce was coming. The filing now makes the end of the marriage official.
The Noems met in high school, married in 1992 and built their family together long before Kristi Noem became governor of South Dakota and later Trump’s Homeland Security secretary.
Now, after more than three decades of marriage, that chapter is coming to an end, amid scandals, public scrutiny and a long-running controversy over Noem’s relationship with one of Trump’s closest political allies.
