Donald Trump is turning his fire inward again.
The president erupted on Truth Social Thursday after two Republican senators delayed a committee vote on Todd Blanche’s nomination to become attorney general, blasting the lawmakers and threatening to pull Blanche’s nomination until they’re no longer in office.
“Todd Blanche is a STAR, and everyone knows it!” Trump wrote. “He has the potential to go down as one of the Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time.”
But Trump’s praise for Blanche quickly gave way to an angry tirade aimed at Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
The two senators canceled a planned committee vote on Blanche’s nomination Wednesday amid questions surrounding Trump’s settled lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, leaving the nomination temporarily stalled.
Trump responded by claiming Cornyn and Tillis had effectively ended their own political careers because he refused to endorse them.
“John Cornyn, of Texas, and Thom Tillis, of North Carolina, both of whom I refused to Endorse, and whose political careers have been ended by my action, are refusing to vote for this Great Nominee,” Trump wrote, adding that Blanche would remain acting attorney general regardless.
He then escalated the threat.
“I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office,” Trump declared.
Trump also took a swipe at both senators for previously voting to confirm Merrick Garland, writing, “Remember, both Cornyn and Tillis voted for Merrick Garland, and others, too numerous to mention.”
The public broadside highlights the growing friction between Trump and members of his own party, as the president increasingly demands loyalty from Republican lawmakers while showing little patience for any delay or dissent—even when it comes from within GOP ranks.
