After a brief public breakup with Donald Trump, Elon Musk is officially back in the Republican fold, and he’s bringing a massive plan to help keep the GOP in control of Congress, and, some believe, avoid being subpoenaed to testify in multiple controversial cases.
According to a new report from Axios, the world’s richest man is reviving his America PAC to help Republicans hold onto Congress in this year’s midterm elections, pouring what could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars into a massive voter turnout operation aimed at boosting the GOP’s base.
The super PAC, which spent more than $260 million helping elect Trump in 2024, will focus on door-knocking, digital advertising, and direct mail targeting conservative voters, especially those who tend to skip midterm elections.
Musk’s team isn’t saying exactly how much he’ll spend this time around. But considering he became the largest individual political donor in a single election cycle in U.S. history during the 2024 campaign, few expect him to be writing small checks.
Trump’s political operation certainly isn’t hiding its excitement.
“America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country,” Trump’s senior political adviser James Blair told Axios.
Blair added that Republicans would once again “outsmart our opponents and ruthlessly execute our mission” between now and Election Day.
The renewed partnership comes at a critical moment for Republicans.
Despite sitting on a massive financial advantage—more than $300 million over Democratic committees, plus another $400 million in Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC—Republicans are facing a difficult political environment. Trump’s approval ratings have sagged, particularly over the economy and the Iran war, putting GOP control of the House and possibly even the Senate at risk this November.
Musk’s voter turnout machine is designed to help change that equation.
America PAC claims it knocked on more than 10 million doors across several battleground states during the 2024 election. This time, the group will once again coordinate with the broader Republican political network, allowing other GOP organizations to focus their money on television advertising while Musk’s operation concentrates on turning out reliable conservative voters.
The effort will be led by Musk’s longtime political adviser, Chris Young.
The alliance marks another dramatic turn in Musk’s political evolution.
After serving a controversial four-month stint leading Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, Musk publicly clashed with the president over what he blasted as runaway federal spending in Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill.” At one point, he even floated the idea of launching a third party to challenge Republicans.
However, over the past year, Musk quietly moved back into the GOP’s orbit, resumed donating to Republican candidates, and even contributed $10 million to Kentucky Senate candidate Nate Morris before Morris ultimately joined the Trump administration instead of continuing his campaign.
Now, with control of Congress hanging in the balance, Musk appears ready to once again use his enormous fortune to help fuel Republican turnout efforts.
“The president’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top-notch operation,” America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo told Axios, adding that the group is “excited to again be part of the team.”
With billions of dollars at his disposal and another election looming, Musk is once again positioning himself as the Republican Party’s most powerful, and most influential, political benefactor.
