Democrat Graham Platner Opens Huge Lead Over Susan Collins in New Poll — Republicans Panic

Democratic rising star Graham Platner just delivered a political gut-punch to longtime MAGA enabler Susan Collins — and the numbers have Republicans sweating.

A new independent poll from Pan Atlantic Research shows Platner leading Collins by a stunning 7 points, 48% to 41%, in Maine’s U.S. Senate race. Even worse for Collins? This isn’t a fluke. Platner’s lead has actually grown since March.

And unlike the usual GOP spin machine, this poll dropped after Gov. Janet Mills stepped aside, effectively clearing the Democratic field for Platner and allowing voters to focus squarely on a direct Collins-vs.-Platner showdown.

The result? Mainers appear more than ready to send Collins packing.

For years, Collins has survived by hiding behind the carefully manufactured image of a “reasonable moderate.” But voters have watched her routine too many times now. Every election cycle, she clutches her pearls, pretends to be “concerned” about Donald Trump, then obediently falls in line the moment her vote actually matters.

Kavanaugh. Tax cuts for billionaires. MAGA judges. Trump’s extremist agenda. Collins always caves.

Now it looks like Maine voters may finally be done with the act.

The numbers are brutal for the five-term incumbent.

Platner dominates among independents — the most important bloc in Maine politics — by a massive 13-point margin. Women favor him overwhelmingly. College-educated voters are breaking hard against Collins. Even in a state where incumbents traditionally enjoy strong advantages, Collins is underwater against a first-time candidate.

That should terrify Republicans.

Because Platner isn’t running as some watered-down corporate Democrat carefully crafted by consultants. He’s running as an unapologetic populist willing to confront oligarchic power, defend working people, and reject establishment politics that have hollowed out the Democratic Party for decades.

And voters are responding.

Meanwhile, Collins’ team is already reaching for the panic button.

Her campaign spokesperson tried to wave away the polling by pointing to past Maine races where surveys underestimated Collins. Translation: Please ignore the fact that voters are clearly sick of us.

But this race feels different.

The political environment is radically more volatile. Trumpism has become even more toxic outside the MAGA bubble. And Collins no longer benefits from the illusion that she’s an independent check on Republican extremism. That mask slipped a long time ago.

Even worse for the GOP, Platner’s momentum reflects a broader hunger inside the Democratic base for candidates who actually fight instead of constantly surrendering to corporate donors and right-wing intimidation.

If Platner pulls this off, it won’t just be a Senate upset.

It could become a blueprint.

A progressive outsider defeating one of the most entrenched establishment senators in America would send shockwaves through both parties — especially among Democrats tired of watching cautious centrists lose ground while pretending everything is normal.

Of course, Republicans and corporate Democrats alike will now throw everything they have at Platner. Expect millions in outside spending, nonstop attack ads, and the usual pearl-clutching about how progressives are “too radical” to win.

But the early numbers suggest Maine voters may have already made up their minds about who’s truly out of touch.

And for Susan Collins, that’s a very dangerous place to be.
