Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, showed up at an FBI raid on Georgia’s Fulton County election office this week, prompting lawmakers to question her presence.

Federal agents executed a search warrant at the Union City office, seeking 2020 election records including ballots, tabulator tapes, and voter rolls. The investigation is tied to ongoing Donald Trump’s claims surrounding the 2020 election despite a mountain of debunked evidence.

Democrats were quick to call out what they see as a brazen politicization of federal power. Sen. Jon Ossoff blasted the raid as “a continuation of this sore loser’s crusade,” tying the FBI action to Trump’s repeated, unproven allegations of voter fraud. “From Minnesota to Georgia… is a President spiraling out of control, wielding federal law enforcement as an unaccountable instrument of personal power and revenge,” Ossoff said.

But the real controversy erupted when Gabbard showed up in person. Her presence, unusual for someone tasked with foreign intelligence oversight, drew immediate scrutiny from Washington.

Sen. Mark Warner (D‑Va.) didn’t mince words: “There are only two explanations for why the Director of National Intelligence would show up at a federal raid tied to Donald Trump’s obsession with losing the 2020 election,” Warner said, according to The Hill.

“Either Director Gabbard believes there was a legitimate foreign intelligence nexus — in which case she is in clear violation of her obligation under the law to keep the intelligence committees ‘fully and currently informed’ — or she is once again demonstrating her utter lack of fitness for office… designed to legitimize conspiracy theories that undermine our democracy.”

The Trump administration defended Gabbard’s presence, calling it oversight. Experts, however, note that domestic law enforcement is almost always the FBI’s domain, not the DNI’s, and her appearance blurs the line between intelligence and partisan politics.

Fulton County officials say the raid was shocking. Hundreds of boxes of election materials were removed without prior notice, even though the county had already been cooperating with lawful requests. Board members called the operation politically charged and alarming.

Congressional Democrats are demanding answers from Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, questioning whether the raid and Gabbard’s involvement represent a coordinated effort to intimidate Georgia election officials ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Whether seen as oversight or political theater, Gabbard’s presence has escalated a local law enforcement action into a **national controversy**, raising questions about legality, ethics, and how far federal power can reach when mixed with partisan politics.
