Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to Saturday Night Live and wasted no time jumping into the political chaos, opening the show as Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi in a sketch that was part roast, part unhinged fever dream.

Fey, playing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, barged into a fake congressional hearing with a grin and a one-liner that hit hard: “What if she is, though? Hold my gun!” That pretty much set the tone — wild, over-the-top, and unapologetically mocking.

Poehler, as Trump Attorney General Pam Bondi, mostly played the straight-faced enabler, chiming in just enough to let Fey’s version of Noem spiral into full parody. And spiral she did.

When SNL’s Mikey Day, playing a fed-up Democrat, tried to bring some sanity to the fake shutdown hearing — “The Democrats are even more eager to end the shutdown than our Republican colleagues” — Fey’s Noem shut it down with one of the most jaw-dropping lines of the night:

“Ha. That makes me laugh more than the end of Old Yeller. Dogs don’t just get shot. Heroes shoot them.”

Yes, they went there.

The sketch didn’t hold back on the absurdity of the real-life drama surrounding the ongoing shutdown and GOP chaos. Fey and Poehler leaned all the way in, channeling the kind of delusional political theater that doesn’t feel that far off from reality these days.

It was a full-circle moment for fans of the iconic duo, who haven’t shared the SNL stage like this in years. They didn’t just show up for nostalgia — they came in swinging, turning the spotlight on what they clearly see as the circus of right-wing politics.
