President Donald Trump says he doesn’t have a “list” of enemies he wants indicted — but within minutes of that denial, he had already floated the name of another potential target.
Standing outside the White House Friday morning with his granddaughter Kai by his side, Trump railed against former FBI Director James Comey — now facing an indictment — and made it clear Comey wouldn’t be the last.
“These were corrupt radical left Democrats, because Comey, essentially was — he was worse than a Democrat,” Trump said. “I would say the Democrats are better than Comey. But no, there’ll be others.”
Among them: former CIA Director John Brennan, a longtime Trump critic.
“We’ll have to see what happens,” Trump said when asked about the possibility of Brennan facing charges. “It is up to the Justice Department, but I can tell you, it is a group of people that was very disappointing. This makes Watergate look like peanuts.”
Brennan has denied any wrongdoing, even as speculation swirls about his involvement in the early days of the Trump-Russia investigation.
So much for no list.
The president insisted the Comey case wasn’t about payback. “It’s about justice. Really, it’s not revenge,” he said. “It’s also about the fact that you can’t let this go on. They are sick, radical left people, and they can’t get away with it.”
He doubled down. “And Comey was one of the people. He wasn’t the biggest, but he’s a dirty cop.”
For someone claiming he’s not settling scores, Trump is keeping score out loud.
The Comey indictment comes after years of Trump painting the former FBI director as a symbol of the so-called “deep state.” But the president was quick to remind reporters that more people could be on the chopping block.
If this isn’t a list, it’s starting to look a lot like one.
