Donald Trump was caught red-handed denying something CNN says he was already told — that his name shows up in the Justice Department’s files on Jeffrey Epstein.
On OutFront, CNN anchor Erin Burnett played a damning clip of Trump flat-out saying “no, no” when asked if he was told his name appeared in the Epstein files. But Burnett pointed out that according to The Wall Street Journal, that’s just not true.
Here’s what the Journal reported: In May, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi told Trump during a White House meeting that his name was in the DOJ’s Epstein records — more than once. He was reportedly told his name appeared “among many other high-profile figures” in the files from the department’s investigation into Epstein, the convicted sex offender.
That conversation happened in May. But when a reporter asked Trump about it on July 15, he denied ever being told.
“No, no. She’s given us just a very quick briefing. And in terms of the credibility of the different things that they’ve seen. And I would say that, you know, these files were made up by Comey. They were made up by Obama, Trump said.”
That denial came two months after the reported meeting.
Burnett didn’t mince words.
“All right. Well, that would be a lie, if he’s saying that he was not told his name specifically appeared in the files,” she said. “This is a significant development.”
The White House pushed back hard. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung called the story “a continuation of the fake news stories concocted by the Democrats and the liberal media.”
The DOJ also denied the report. Spokesperson Gates McGavick posted on X that it was “a collection of falsehoods and innuendo designed to push a bulls— narrative and drive clicks.”
But Burnett wasn’t focused on guilt or innocence. She said the issue isn’t whether Trump did anything criminal — it’s that he denied knowing something he was reportedly told directly.
That’s the story: Trump says he wasn’t told. Reliable sources say he was. And now it’s on video.
