Former President Barack Obama is firing back after Donald Trump accused him of treason over the 2016 election.
Trump, backed by his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, claimed Russia never interfered in the election and said Obama invented the whole thing. Trump went so far as to say Obama should be arrested.
Obama’s office had stayed quiet—until now. But the latest accusations crossed a line.
“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one,” Obama’s spokesperson said in a statement, according to News Nation’s Kellie Meyer.
“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction,” the statement continued.
The Obama camp pointed to multiple investigations confirming Russian interference. “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes,” the spokesperson said.
They also reminded the public that this wasn’t just a partisan finding. “These findings were affirmed in a 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by then-Chairman Marco Rubio.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s own handpicked special counsel, John Durham, spent three years digging into the Russia probe and came up empty. According to an NBC News report, Durham found no criminal conspiracy by Obama or intelligence officials.
The facts are out there, and Obama is done staying silent.
