Trump’s Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has officially asked the Department of Justice to investigate several Obama-era officials.
According to Fox News Digital, the DOJ confirmed it received a criminal referral from Gabbard accusing officials of using false intelligence to push the Trump-Russia investigation.
Last week, Gabbard declassified documents she says prove that top officials from the Obama administration knowingly “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to target Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign. Fox was first to report on the release.
Gabbard claims these documents directly tie former President Barack Obama to what she calls a politically motivated smear campaign. She says the Obama administration “weaponized” intelligence agencies against a political opponent.
Meanwhile, the internet lit up Monday after President Trump posted an AI-generated video showing Barack Obama being arrested by the FBI in the Oval Office. The clip shows a handcuffed Obama kneeling in front of Trump, who is sitting and smiling.
This comes as Trump continues to face backlash over his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case while in office. But Trump has long insisted that the real scandal was the so-called “Russia hoax” — a phrase he often uses to refer to investigations into his campaign’s ties to the Kremlin.
While Gabbard is pushing for a new investigation, it’s important to note that a Republican-led Senate panel in 2020 found Russia did interfere in the 2016 election to help Trump. That report, over 1,000 pages long, concluded that the Trump campaign chairman had “regular contact with a Russian intelligence officer” and that other aides “were eager to exploit the Kremlin’s aid.”
