A dramatic series of videos captures the moment a man convicted of assaulting a child attempted to escape from a Maine courthouse on Wednesday, only to be swiftly apprehended by two jurors and a detective.

Nicholas Carter, 31, was found guilty of aggravated assault against a 14-month-old child during a three-day trial at the Somerset County Superior Courthouse. Following his conviction, Carter made a desperate bid for freedom while still handcuffed.

Footage reveals Carter sprinting down a courthouse hallway, evading an initial attempt to stop him. He then bursts out of the courthouse and across a parking lot. The chase ends when Carter stumbles and falls in a nearby yard, where he is quickly subdued by two jurors and a detective.

Carter’s sentencing hearing for the aggravated assault conviction is anticipated in the coming weeks.
