In a recent interview on Newsmax, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sharply criticized House Republicans for their lackluster performance and divisive internal conflicts. The interview, which centered around DeSantis’s prospects for the 2028 presidential race, took a significant turn when he addressed the current state of the GOP.
DeSantis was queried about his chances in the 2028 election, particularly in light of Donald Trump’s recent decision to select J.D. Vance as his running mate for 2024. The question posed a scenario where Trump wins in 2024, steps down, and Vance then runs as Trump’s successor, potentially creating a formidable challenge for DeSantis in the 2028 Republican primaries.
While DeSantis initially focused on touting his achievements as Florida’s governor, he couldn’t resist taking a jab at the House GOP’s performance. He remarked, “I can tell you, I’ve watched the Republicans have the House now since 2022, they’ve got really nothing to show for it.”
He urged the current GOP to follow Florida’s example, emphasizing that effective governance is possible, as demonstrated by his administration’s accomplishments.
“I remember the first two years we had a Republican Congress when Trump was president and they really failed to deliver in a big way. So now I think is the time to put up or shut up. We’ve shown that it can be done in Florida, so follow that lead and do it nationally.”
With DeSantis’s own term set to end in 2026, his future political ambitions remain uncertain, although he has expressed a desire to run on his record as governor. Despite his previous presidential campaign’s poor showing, DeSantis appears resolute in his belief that his “Make America Florida” slogan still holds merit.
His remarks reflect growing frustration among Republicans over the party’s direction and legislative priorities. Their tenure has been marred by infighting and a relentless, yet fruitless, pursuit of President Biden and his son Hunter. Instead of focusing on substantive policy work, they’ve been stuck in a quagmire of investigations, trying and failing to establish a direct link between the President and his son’s business dealings.

My goodness, Ron DeSantis coming in hot! 🔥🔥
He is asked about a hypothetical 2028 primary between him and JD Vance and he threw down the gauntlet!
I'm paraphrasing here but he basically said that he's the baddest MF'er in the Republican party based on how thoroughly he… pic.twitter.com/l8kH9z7bni
