‘You Call Me Flamboyant?’ Matt Gaetz Clashes With Geraldo Rivera In Heated Fox News Interview

Ron Delancer

During an interview on Fox News Thursday evening, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was confronted by Fox personality Geraldo Rivera over his repeated efforts to block Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from becoming Speaker of the House.

“What in the world were you and your 19 colleagues doing torturing the Speaker, your Speaker?” Rivera told the Florida Republican. “What did you hope to attain?”

Gaetz tried to justify his posture by claiming that he and other Republicans wanted certain concessions, including the elimination of large all-or-nothing omnibus bills to fund the federal government so that they would be able to consider budgetary items separately.

Rivera was not buying it and proceeded to accuse Gaetz of only pretending to be a “thoughtful legislator”, noting that Gaetz usually acts “flamboyant” in an attempt to get “publicity.”

“I make a substantive argument about changes to the process and you call me flamboyant?” Gaetz thundered back.
