During Tuesday’s broadcast Of “The View” co-host Meghan McCain and Joy Behar got into an argument over the Republican Party’s support for embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
The argument took place on ABC’s daytime talk show the day after former Gaetz associate Joel Greenberg pleaded guilty to several charges as part of a plea deal.
Behar argued that the Republican Party only cares when their members speak out against former President Trump. She said Gaetz feels like “he has cover in the Republican Party” because he still supports Trump’s baseless claims that he won last year’s presidential election.
McCain responded by saying that Behar doesn’t know anything about the GOP and that Republican lawmakers are “embarrassed” by Gaetz before saying that some Democratic lawmakers should be removed from their committees for making comments about the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians.
Behar fired back, asking McCain what the GOP should be called, suggesting the “QAnon Party” might be appropriate.
McCain replied that Behar can call the GOP whatever she wants, adding that Behar’s influence in the party “is almost zero.”
“What Republican is like, ‘Joy Behar doesn’t like my party, oh God, I better stop voting for them now,’” McCain said.
Both co-hosts continued to argue back and forth on whether Gaetz should be removed from the party and convicted of the allegations against him. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg eventually cut them off by going to a commercial break.
Greenberg pled guilty to six counts on Monday, including a charge of sex trafficking of a minor. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and hasn’t been charged.
